Hamburger Mary’s started brewing it’s own line of craft beers in 2009, when we expanded and opened “Mary’s Rec Room” in the adjacent restaurant space, making us the oldest nano-brewery in Chicago! (basically, that’s a fancy term for a really small brewery).
We recently rebranded the space as Andersonville Brewing to highlight the great beers we’ve been producing. What started as a hobby in the corner of a sports bar has turned into a 200+ barrels/year (400 kegs) operation, with as many as eight of our brews on tap at any given time. Whether you are in the mood for a light golden ale, like our Blonde Bombshell, or a barrel-aged or sour stout… we have something to satisfy all tastes.
In addition to the beers we brew on site, we also offer more than 40 other beers and ciders in bottle and draft, with a primary focus on local Midwest brews. Our food menu comes from the Hamburger Mary’s kitchen, and has a wide variety of gourmet half-pound burgers, salads, sandwiches, entrees, appetizers and desserts… many of which contain beer ingredients from our brewing process (like our Bootlegger-BBQ sauce, and the fresh-cut Poutine fries with beer-gravy!)
Andersonville Brewing is still Andersonville’s premier sports bar. No matter what the season, we’ll have the big game on… NCAA and NFL football, March Madness, Blackhawks, MLB, NBA… even college wrestling! Though there’s a special focus on the home teams, SEC Football (War Eagle!) and Big10 basketball, we’ll always have the “big game” on and try to accommodate special requests.

BATTLE FOR THE PADDLE HOMEBREW COMPETITION
Enjoy some of the best local home-brewed beers, and help select the winning brew! The winning beer will be brewed at Andersonville Brewing, and available on-tap at A’Ville Brewing and Hamburger Mary’s!
MONTHLY TAP TAKE-OVER
Each month we select a different local Chicagoland brewery to feature, with 3-4 of their beers on tap. We kick off the Tap Takeover on the first Thursday of each month, with brewery and distributor representatives present and available to chat. There’s also samples and discounts!
CHICAGO CRAFT BEER WEEK
Usually held in May, this is part of a national Craft Beer Week, where we pay homage to the small, independent craft brewers. Andersonville Brewing and Hamburger Mary’s are proud to participate in Craft Beer Week by offering special tasting menus and hosting our “New Brewers Showcase.”

Hamburger Mary's co-owner and Head Brewer Brandon Wright (above) has been home brewing since 1999. As a former chemical engineer, he was sent to work in Saudi Arabia for two years. Alcohol being illegal there, Brandon started making fruit wines using fruit juice, baker's yeast and granulated sugar - not necessarily the best ingredients, but the only ones available at the time. Eventually moving into brewing beer, Brandon found what had started out as a hobby from necessity had became a passion.
Brandon is joined by assistant brewers David and Tyler (right), and together they come up with some tasty beers for Andersonville Brewing and Hamburger Mary's!
